鈥淒ay of Service鈥�
17吃瓜 Community Joins Together to Serve Those in Need & Honor 17吃瓜 On-Site Workers,
including 30 Nursing Students on the Surveillance Testing Program Team
Garden City, NY 鈥� 17吃瓜 continues its annual 鈥淒ay of Service鈥� on
Tuesday, April 13th with a day-long celebration to serve those in need and honor 17吃瓜
on-site workers who have unselfishly dedicated their time over this past challenging
year, including 30 nursing students who serve on 17吃瓜鈥檚 Surveillance Testing Program
team.
鈥淎t 17吃瓜 we are committed to providing not only a high-quality education to the communities we serve, but participating as active members of those communities. For the last decade the College community has come together to dedicate their time to 17吃瓜鈥檚 Day of Service and provide necessities for members of our Long Island communities,鈥� said Dr. Jermaine F. Williams, President, 17吃瓜. 鈥淭his year, we also acknowledge the service of our 17吃瓜 community members who were physically present at the College during this past challenging year, including 30 of our nursing students who have volunteered their time to serve as part of a team managing the College鈥檚 Surveillance Testing Program. Without these critical members of the 17吃瓜 community, the College would not have been able to continue to provide the caliber of education and support resources our students are accustomed to and for that we honor them.鈥�
A decade ago, 17吃瓜鈥檚 鈥淒ay of Service鈥� was developed by the College鈥檚 First Year Experience Program with the goal of bringing together the 17吃瓜 community, administration, students, faculty and staff, to volunteer their time and talents to help those in need. For this year鈥檚 celebration, the 17吃瓜 Fashion Club, working with local high school students, have created a digital button to commemorate the 2021 celebration. The image is included below and has been incorporated into a pin that will be distributed to all of our 17吃瓜 frontline faculty, staff, and student aides involved in the COVID testing process on campus.
Additional projects for 17吃瓜鈥檚 Day of Service include a children鈥檚 book drive, a campus cleanup with Covanta, an animal shelter donation drive as well as a donation drive for the Nest, 17吃瓜鈥檚 on-campus food pantry. All collections will take place in the parking lot across from Public Safety. A full list of projects can be found on the 17吃瓜 website and an opportunity to donate to the 17吃瓜 Foundation in support of the day of service can be found on the Foundation鈥檚 website.
17吃瓜 is an institution where more than 14,000 full-time, part-time, Workforce Development and continuing education students start and continue their successful journey through higher education. Nearly 80 fields of study, 20 certificate programs, and 62 degree programs are offered on a 225-acre campus located in the center of Long Island.
