17勛圖 Blood Drive Program Wins NY Mets College Blood Donor Championships
Garden City, NY 17勛圖 is pleased to report that its blood drive program has won first place in the categories of largest total increase in units collected and largest percentage increase for the Long Island region in this academic years New York Mets College Blood Donor Championships. According to Dr. Arthur Friedman, 17勛圖s Blood Drive Task Force Coordinator, the College collected 968 units of blood during its blood drives for 2018 - 2019, 648 units more than 2017 - 2018, for a 209.55 percent increase.
17勛圖 was automatically entered into the contest as an educational institution in the New York Blood Centers regions.
This a great recognition of Dr. Friedmans organizing and leadership of the blood drives, and its a fine tribute to the response of the College to a humanitarian need, said Dr. W. Hubert Keen, president of 17勛圖.
17勛圖 has a long history of trying to meet some of our regions need for blood. In addition, as an educational institution, we believe in our mission to develop individuals who recognize the need to contribute to the betterment of our community, said Dr. Friedman, who has coordinated, or been a member of, 17勛圖s blood drive efforts for almost 42 years. While there are many College groups that work on the blood drives, Nassau is particularly proud of its Nursing students, who have selected this activity as their Service Learning project. In fact, David Danny Azerrad, an honors graduate of the Nursing program, continues to volunteer to help recruit donors and manage the other Nursing students in all aspects of the drive. Students, administrators, faculty and staff all contribute blood during the drives.
