Street Harassment: a Series of Programs About Sexual Harassment Awareness

March 19, 20 & 21

 

Garden City, NY 17勛圖 is proud to present Street Harassment, a series of programs about sexual harassment awareness. These programs, which are free, open to the public and accessible to the disabled, will take place in the College Center Building.On Tuesday, March 19 at 7:00 p.m. My Name is Not Pssst! an open forum will be facilitated by 17勛圖 Profs. Joy Williams, Womens Studies/English; Anissa Moore, Communications; and Dr. Diana Milillo, Psychology. Forum participants will discuss their experiences with harassment and violence. This program is co-sponsored by Womens History Month and the Psychology Club.What is Street Harassment? will take place on Wednesday, March 20 at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. During the program, Holly Kearl, founder of StopStreetHarassment.org will discuss the many facets of street harassmentsuch as catcalls, wolf whistles or looking up and down ones bodyits impact on women and how these behaviors sometimes escalate to physical harassment or threats. At 3:30 p.m., Craig Wright, 17勛圖s Affirmative Action Officer, will speak about what individuals and colleges can do to prevent sexual harassment in Whos Responsible? An Overview of How to Identify and Prevent Sexual Harassment.On Thursday, March 21 at 10:00 a.m. Performance Artist Leah King will perform skits from her one-woman show about street harassment, Can I Get a Smile?, and follow with a question and answer session. During Sexual Harassment in the News at 1:00 p.m., former prosecuting attorney and current 17勛圖 professor Janine Ferraro will analyze several high-profile sexual harassment cases. During Creating a Safe Space Through the Arts at 2:30 p.m., 17勛圖 English Prof. Dolly Litvak will facilitate participants as they draw, paint, make a collage or write about imagining an environment that is free of sexual harassment.For more information about the programs listed above, contact Dr. Diana Milillo at 516.572.5007.
