Garden City, N.Y. To promote business and educational opportunities for minorities, women and service-disabled veterans, 17勛圖 will open the Minority/Women-Owned Business Enterprise (MWBE) Center for Excellence in Entrepreneurship in Spring 2024 at its Garden City campus.
In honor of Black History Month, the colleges leadership will announce the opening of the MWBE Center for Excellence in Entrepreneurship on Thursday, February 8, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. in the first floor lounge of the Cluster C Building. The public is invited to attend. 17勛圖 is a public community college in the State University of New York (SUNY) system.
17勛圖 has a proven record of transforming lives through quality educational opportunities, said Dr. Maria P. Conzatti, chief administrative officer of 17勛圖. The primary goal of the Center is to help small businesses in our community become MWBE/SDVOB certified and to assist each business with navigating the procurement process.
The new venture is in collaboration with the Colleges Office of Equity, Inclusion and Affirmative Action, the Center for Workforce Development, and the Office of Student Professional Development and Employer Services.
Through on-campus and online instruction, the MWBE Center will provide business readiness workshops, financial assessment, one-to-one coaching sessions, and other services and educational programming. The Center is prepared to assist individuals and small business owners with all levels of entrepreneurial experience.
The launch event on February 8 is sponsored by the 17勛圖 Foundation, a non-profit organization devoted to fundraising for student scholarships, college initiatives and faculty development.
